My recent stay at Portland Manor was nothing short of a rejuvenating escape. Nestled in the serene foothills of the Outeniqua Mountains, the historical charm of the estate enveloped us from the moment we arrived. We were greeted with warmth, and throughout our stay, the friendly staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort—seemingly a reflection of Africa’s famed hospitality. The highlight was undoubtedly the culinary experience led by Chef Desmond Morgan. Each meal, particularly the fire-grilled dishes, was a flawless blend of local flavors, enhancing the beautiful views we enjoyed from our spacious room overlooking the garden and pool area. After days spent exploring the nature trails around Lawnwood Dam, we loved unwinding on the expansive new deck, cocktail in hand as the sun set over the mountains. Portland Manor is a perfect getaway for families or couples like us who cherish quality time amidst nature, yet I could also see it appealing to like-minded travelers seeking an authentic African experience. Whether you’re fishing at the dam or simply soaking in the peaceful ambiance, this place feels like a home away from home. I can’t wait to return!
